How to Optimise Your Pallet Configuration for Drink Imports
Share
Whether you're importing functional drinks for the first time or looking to tighten up an existing supply chain, pallet configuration is one of the highest-leverage decisions you can make. Get it right and you save significantly on freight costs. Get it wrong and you're paying for air.
The Standard: EUR-Pallet (EPAL)
The EUR-pallet (European Pallet, EPAL standard) is the foundation of European freight. Dimensions: 120cm × 80cm. Maximum typical stacking height for drink cases: 160–180cm. Maximum weight: typically 1,000–1,500kg depending on the carrier.
All products we ship from our warehouse in Skövde use EUR-pallets as standard.
NOCCO BCAA — Pallet Configuration
- Can size: 330ml
- Units per case: 24 cans
- Cases per pallet: 80
- Total units per pallet: 1,920 cans
- Stacking height: approximately 170cm
NOCCO pallets stack to around 170cm — close to the maximum. Do not stack additional products on top of a full NOCCO pallet.
Vitamin Well 500ml — Pallet Configuration
- Bottle size: 500ml
- Units per case: 12 bottles
- Cases per pallet: approximately 125
- Total units per pallet: approximately 1,500 bottles
Vitamin Well cases are lighter and can be mixed across flavours on the same pallet — useful for smaller orders covering multiple variants.
Barebells Milkshake 330ml — Pallet Configuration
- Units per case: 8 bottles
- Cases per pallet: approximately 100
- Total units per pallet: approximately 800 bottles
We recommend keeping Barebells on a separate pallet from NOCCO, since NOCCO pallets are already close to maximum stacking height.
Mixing Products on Pallets
Mixed pallets (different products on the same pallet) can reduce freight costs for smaller orders, but they require more careful stacking. Key rules:
- Heaviest items always go at the bottom
- Don't stack heavier cases on top of lighter ones
- Wrap each layer with stretch film before adding the next product
- Never exceed 170cm total height
Freight Cost Optimisation
Freight is typically quoted per pallet or per truck. Maximising cases per pallet directly reduces your cost per unit. For full truckload (FTL) shipments, a standard European truck carries 33 EUR-pallets. Optimising your pallet count to fill a truck efficiently is one of the fastest ways to reduce logistics costs.
For reference: a 15-pallet shipment from our Skövde warehouse to Lille, France costs approximately €1,300 including insurance — roughly €87 per pallet.
